Phung Hung Mural Street

The street where Vietnam turned its memories into art

Hidden among the tracks and alleys of old Hanoi, Phung Hung Mural Street transformed a run-down old railway crossing into one of the most artistic and special areas of the city. What were once gray and abandoned walls have now become a huge open-air urban gallery where each mural tells a small story about traditional Vietnamese life.

The paintings depict everyday scenes of old Hanoi: street vendors walking the streets with bicycles loaded with flowers, traditional markets, children playing or old trams crossing the city decades ago. Many of the works are made in a hyperrealistic style that makes some scenes seem like authentic windows open to the past.

The project was born as a collaboration between Vietnamese and Korean artists with the intention of recovering one of the most forgotten historical areas of Hanoi and bringing it back to life through art. Since then, the street became a symbol of how the city has managed to mix tradition and modernity without losing its identity.

As evening falls, warm lights begin to illuminate the stone arches while street musicians, small food stalls and nearby cafes fill the atmosphere of local life.

A perfect corner to discover the most creative, human and nostalgic side of Vietnam.
