Chang Chui Night Market

The creative market built around an abandoned plane

Hidden away from the most touristy areas of Bangkok, Chang Chui Night Market has become one of the most original and creative places in the entire city. Street art, neon lights, alternative cafes and small galleries fill this huge space designed to mix creativity, music and Thai urban culture.

But what really makes this place special appears in the center of the market: a gigantic abandoned royal plane that dominates the entire venue. The plane, illuminated by warm lights at night, became the symbol of the market and one of the most surreal corners of Bangkok.

The project was created by Thai artists and designers with the idea of transforming forgotten objects and industrial spaces into cultural places open to the public. In fact, the name “Chang Chui” itself can be roughly translated as “disorderly craftsman,” perfectly reflecting the chaotic and creative philosophy of the market.

Between street food stalls, live music and small independent shops, the atmosphere changes completely as the afternoon falls. Locals and travelers mingle among giant sculptures, artistic installations and hidden terraces while the old illuminated plane seems suspended in the middle of the market.

A very different corner from the Bangkok of temples and skyscrapers, where creativity and alternative culture show one of the most unexpected faces of Thailand.
